Welcome to ActiveRoles Quick Connect

ActiveRoles Quick Connect automates the management of Active Directory user account lifecycle based on external data, and provides an identity management solution that extends the capabilities of ActiveRoles Server beyond Active Directory.

An option of ActiveRoles Quick Connect, the Scheduled Import Wizard automates the tasks of maintaining Active Directory user accounts in sync with external data sources, such as HR and ERP systems, and enables quick and efficient propagation of identity information from external data sources to Active Directory, thus lowering account provisioning workload and costs, and ensuring consistent and accurate representation of identity information in Active Directory. With the ability to create and modify user accounts based on external data, the Scheduled Import Wizard also increases security through business process integration and by reducing the amount of manual processing that must occur between systems when identity information changes (for example, when an employee joins or leaves the organization).

Another option is ILM Integration, which provides the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent for Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS). The Management Agent enables bi-directional synchronization of user accounts, groups and other directory data between ActiveRoles Server and MIIS. For organizations that rely on MIIS for enterprise provisioning, the ILM Integration solution facilitates the user provisioning in Active Directory based on users' identities in corporate data stores. With the ability to export identity information from MIIS to ActiveRoles Server, ILM Integration makes it possible to have MIIS populate Active Directory in compliance with the business rules and security policies defined in ActiveRoles Server.

The ILM Integration component includes a deployment panel, allowing you to easily examine and adjust all the solution configuration-related characteristics in line with the rules and policies controlling the management actions that supplement identity data flows between MIIS, ActiveRoles Server, and data repositories. The deployment panel allows you to configure a wide variety of provisioning rules and policies without writing a single line of code.

New in this Release

This section discusses the new features added with the maintenance release of Quick Connect 3.5.2, as compared to the initial release of version 3.5.0.  For information about new features and enhancements included in ActiveRoles Quick Connect version 3.5, refer to the What's New document for ActiveRoles Quick Connect 3.5. You can access that document from the Documentation page in the ActiveRoles Server CD Autorun window.

New Features Included in Version 3.5.2

  • Support for Microsoft Windows Sever 2008

Beginning with the 3.5.2 release, Quick Connect adds support for the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 operating system. The client-side and server-side components of the Scheduled Import Wizard can be installed and run on Windows Server 2008. You can use the CD Autorun interface to install Quick Connect on Windows Server 2008-based computers.

  • Support for 64-bit Systems

Beginning with the 3.5.2 release, the Quick Connect release package includes the 64-bit versions for the client-side and server-side components of the Scheduled Import Wizard.

The 64-bit versions of these Quick Connect components take advantage of the new 64-bit CPUs that are produced and sold in most new computers. Separate installation packages are provided for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Scheduled Import Wizard components. 32-bit components can be run on a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. 64-bit components require a 64-bit operating system.

Important:

The 32-bit Scheduled Import Wizard requires a 32-bit operating system, the 32-bit ActiveRoles Server console, and the 32-bit ActiveRoles Server Administration Service.

The 64-bit Scheduled Import Wizard requires a 64-bit operating system, the 64-bit ActiveRoles Server console, and the 64-bit ActiveRoles Server Administration Service.

  • The MIIS Integration Component Renamed to ILM Integration

Beginning with the 3.5.2 release, Quick Connect can use both Microsoft Identity Integration Server 2003  and MIIS component of Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) 2007 (see System Requirements).  The MIIS Integration component of Quick Connect was renamed to ILM Integration.

Fixed: Compatibility issues with ActiveRoles Server version 6.0.4.

Known Issues

This section provides a list of the currently known issues that customers may experience with ActiveRoles Quick Connect 3.5.2. For each issue, the list includes an ID number, which identifies the issue, a brief description of the problem, and a workaround, if any exists, for the problem. The list is divided by component so that the issues related to each individual component of the product are grouped together:

Scheduled Import Wizard

CR0105217
The Setup program may be unable to uninstall the Scheduled Import Wizard.

This problem shows up if you have uninstalled the Administration Service from the computer running the Scheduled Import Wizard server-side components. In this case, the Setup program cannot update the configuration of ActiveRoles Server, which is to be performed via the Administration Service. As a result, the uninstall process cannot proceed.

WORKAROUND
Whatever the case, uninstall the Scheduled Import Wizard prior to uninstalling the Administration Service.

CR0120399
The Scheduled Import Wizard may not allow you to select the Administration Service to run a Synchronization Agreement.

This problem shows up if the ActiveRoles Server console connects by the NetBIOS name of the computer running the Administration Service. In this case, when you open the "Change Administration Service" window from the Scheduled Import Wizard user interface, the list of Administration Services is empty in that window.

WORKAROUND
Close the Scheduled Import Wizard user interface and then use the Connect command on the console tree root to specify the Administration Service. In the "Change Administration Service" window, type or select the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the computer running the Administration Service. Open the Scheduled Import Wizard user interface and change the Administration Service you want to run the Synchronization Agreement, if needed.

CR0139632
When you modify properties of a Synchronization Agreement, the Scheduled Import Wizard may not allow you to select a certain account to be used as the Administrator of that Synchronization Agreement.

This problem shows up if the account in question resides in a domain that is not registered with the ActiveRoles Server Administration Service to which the ActiveRoles Server console is connected.

WORKAROUND
Register the domain by adding it to the list of managed domains for that Administration Service, or connect to the Administration Service for which the domain in question is in the list of managed domains.

CR0142533
When you modify properties of a newly created Synchronization Agreement, the Scheduled Import Wizard may not allow you to change the Target Server setting.

This problem shows up if you attempt to change the Target Server setting immediately after the Synchronization Agreement is created. If you do so, you may encounter the error "Cannot find Scheduled Import Wizard server-side components on 'servername'. You may need to reinstall Scheduled Import Wizard on that computer."

WORKAROUND
Wait while the ActiveRoles Server replication function completes copying the new Synchronization Agreement configuration objects to the server you want to choose as Target Server, and then try again to change the Target Server setting.

CR0142546
In the Run Initial Task window for the Initial Mapping Task, the number of items in the Mapped User Accounts list may be greater than that indicated by the Mapped counter.

WORKAROUND
Use the Mapped counter reading to find out the number of objects that were mapped during the current run of the mapping task. Use the number of entries in the Mapped User Accounts list to find out the total amount of user accounts that have associated (linked) objects in the data source.

CR0191238
When run on a Synchronization Agreement that was upgraded from an earlier version to version 3.1, the Inspect command may return the following error: "To use this option, you must first configure Active Directory Scope."

WORKAROUND
Use the Configure command on the upgraded Synchronization Agreement to review and, if necessary, modify the Active Directory Scope settings. When you are done, close the Active Directory Scope Configuration wizard by clicking Finish (rather than Cancel).

CR0191244
After upgrade to version 3.1 has been performed, information on operation results of the Synchronization Agreements of earlier versions is not available. Thus, for such Agreements, the "Execution History" section in the Inspect window does not display the results of operations that occurred before the upgrade to version 3.1. This problem is due to the fact that version 6.0.0 of ActiveRoles Server, which is the platform for Quick Connect 3.1.1, does not preserve the change history data that was generated by an earlier version.

CR0191250
After upgrade to version 3.1 has been performed, information on mapping results is not available for the Synchronization Agreements of earlier versions. Thus, for such Agreements, the Mapped view in the "Controlled User Accounts" section in the Inspect window does not display any user accounts that were linked with data source objects before the upgrade to version 3.1.

WORKAROUND
Upgrade your existing Synchronization Agreement to version 3.1, and then use the Synchronization Agreement Configuration wizard to run the initial mapping task for that Agreement.

CR0191507
When using the "Run Synchronization Agreement" dialog box, you may encounter the following problem: The "Users moved" counter is not displayed, so you cannot view the number of user accounts that were moved by the Synchronization Agreement during its run.

CR0191513
When configuring attribute flow rules in the "Attribute Flow" step or in the "Creation" step of the Synchronization Agreement Configuration wizard, you may encounter the following problem: If rule settings cause the same Distinguished Name to be assigned to multiple user accounts (which is unacceptable in Active Directory), testing the settings in the wizard may not inform of this error situation. As a result, although the test was successfully passed, the attribute flow operation may fail, returning "Error committing changes to AD on synchronization. Error renaming AD object. DN: 'name'. Administrative Policy returned an error. The specified object name is already in use. Specify a new one, and try again."

The test of attribute flow rules does not detect an error situation where Attribute Flow is going to rename or move user accounts so that multiple accounts receive the same Distinguished Name. You must check your attribute flow settings in order to prevent this situation.

CR0191658
Synchronization Agreement requires that the Initial Mapping Task be run manually rather than on a schedule basis. With the Initial Mapping Task scheduled to run, the Synchronization Agreement fails even though the Initial Mapping Task has been completed, and returns the following error: "To use this option, you must first run Initial Task – Mapping, in the Mapping step."

WORKAROUND
Run the Initial Mapping Task manually: In the Synchronization Agreement Configuration Wizard, on the Mapping page, click "Run Initial Task – Mapping," and then, in the "Run Initial Task" window, click Start.

CR0192078
When using the Resolve Ambiguity dialog box, you may encounter the following error: "The directory datatype cannot be converted to/from a native DS datatype. The specified property 'edsvaQC3Anchor_<Property-GUID> cannot be found in the property cache." This problem may occur shortly after you have repaired the Synchronization Agreement.

WORKAROUND
Wait a few minutes for the changes made by the repair operation to take effect on each Administration Service (the changes may not take effect immediately due to ActiveRoles Server replication latency), and then close and re-open the ActiveRoles Server console from which you are operating the Scheduled Import Wizard.

CR0195793
When using the Find function (for example, in the "Run Synchronization Agreement," "Run Initial Task" or "Test Settings" window), you may encounter the following problem: The Operator list does not include the "Contains" and "Does not contain" options, which were available with the earlier versions of the Scheduled Import Wizard.

CR0195796, CR0195976
When using the Find function (for example, in the "Run Synchronization Agreement," "Run Initial Task," or "Test Settings" window), you may encounter the following problem: There is no way to configure a search for information in the Operation, "User Name," or "In Folder" column: The necessary options are missing from the Attributes list.

CR0196555
Clicking Start in the "Test Data Source Scope Settings" window may cause an error similar to the following: "Internal error. The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Quick Connect 3.1\Scheduled Import Wizard\Temp\d6a9b073-372b-43c5-9629-ca5a7e7466f5\dataSourceScopeCache.csv' because it is being used by another process." This problem may occur if the Scheduled Import Wizard was improperly closed. Thus, if you do not close the wizard prior to closing the ActiveRoles Server console from which the wizard was started, the .csv file that the error refers to remains locked.

WORKAROUND
Close the wizard prior to closing the console from which it was started.

CR0197276
The Upgrade operation on a Basic Evaluation Scenario Synchronization Agreement may fail with an error similar to the following:

"Administrative Policy returned an error.
ServerSideBrowse(122, 6) mscorlib: Could not load type 'Aelita.Booster30.BasicEvaluationScenarioPkg.BesApplicationController' from assembly 'QC30BasicEvaluationScenarioPkg, Version=3.1.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=37ba620bec38a887'."

WORKAROUND
Instead of upgrading an existing Synchronization Agreement for Basic Evaluation Scenario that was created using an earlier version of the product, use the current version to create a new Synchronization Agreement for Basic Evaluation Scenario.

CR0198205
When using the "Test Group Membership Rules" window or the "Initial Task – Group Membership" window, you may encounter the following problem: The number indicated by the "Users with group membership changed" counter is less than the number of entries in the "Operations completed" list.

This problem may occur, for example, with the rule configured to add a certain user account to multiple groups, say, Group1 and Group2. If the Synchronization Agreement has successfully added the account to Group1 but failed to add it to Group2, the "Users with group membership changed" counter is not increased by one. The counter should be increased since the user account in question has its group memberships changed.

WORKAROUND
Refer to the number of items found in the "Operations completed" list for information on how many user accounts have their group memberships changed by the Synchronization Agreement.

You can also examine the list of errors in the lower part of the window for information on the user accounts the Synchronization Agreement failed to add or remove from groups when processing the group membership rules: In the list, click an error, if any, with the following description: "Error committing changes to AD on group membership assignment." Then, in the area above the list heading, click Details.

CR0198493
Direct attribute-to-attribute mapping rules are case-sensitive. You configure such rules using the Simple view on the "Mapping Rules" page in the Mapping Rules Configuration wizard. Thus, you may encounter the following behavior of a name-to-name mapping rule: If the name of a data source object and the name of a user account only differ in letter case (for example, "John Smith" in the data source vs. "john smith" in the user account), the rule considers that the object and the account are not to be linked with each other. The expected behavior is that the mapping rules are case-insensitive, so the "John Smith" object is expected to be linked with the "john smith" user in the above example.

WORKAROUND
Use script-based mapping rules, which are case-insensitive. To implement a script for mapping rules, click Advanced on the "Mapping Rules" page in the Mapping Rules Configuration Wizard.

CR0204682
The Group Membership operation in a Synchronization Agreement may fail, returning "Error committing changes to AD on group membership assignment." The problem occurs if the Group Membership rules are configured so that the Synchronization Agreement attempts to add a user to a group that resides in a domain other than the domain in which the group resides, and there are no trust relationships between the two domains.

WORKAROUND
Establish trust relationships between the two domains, to enable users from one domain to be added to groups in another domain.

CR0206475
In an ADAM 1.0 Template-based Synchronization Agreement, the Attribute Flow operation may incorrectly synchronize data stored in a multi-value attribute: only one value of the attribute is transferred, the other values are not. The problem occurs if the schema cache of the LDAP ADSI Provider has not been updated after the creation of the attribute in ADAM.

WORKAROUND
Restart the Administration Service on the computer running the server-side components of the Scheduled Import Wizard: At a command prompt, enter "net stop arssvc"; then, after the service has stopped, enter "net start arssvc".

CR0207278
When using the Inspect command on a Synchronization Agreement, you may encounter the following problem with the "Controlled User Accounts" section in the Inspect window: The list on the Deprovisioned page is empty even though a number of user accounts have been deprovisioned by the Synchronization Agreement. This problem is due to incorrect configuration of the Managed Unit that represents the Active Directory Scope of the Synchronization Agreement.

WORKAROUND
Use the ActiveRoles Server console to adjust the Managed Unit representing the Active Directory Scope of the Synchronization Agreement:

  1. Switch the console into Raw View mode: On the View menu, click Mode, and then select the "Raw Mode" option.
  2.  In the console tree, expand "Configuration | Managed Units"; then, under "Managed Units", select "Quick Connect 3.5 Scheduled Import Wizard".
  3.  In the details pane, right-click the name of the Synchronization Agreement, and click Properties. (The Managed Unit representing the Active Directory Scope of a given Synchronization Agreement has the same name as that Synchronization Agreement.)
  4. On the "Membership Rules" tab in the Properties dialog box, click Add.
  5. In the "Membership Rule Type" dialog box, under the "Select a rule type" label, click "Retain Deprovisioned"; then, click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box for the Managed Unit.

Important: This adjustment is lost whenever changes are made to the Active Directory Scope configuration settings of the Synchronization Agreement, so the "Retain Deprovisioned" rule needs to be manually added to the Managed Unit again once the Active Directory Scope configuration settings have been modified.

CR0207581
When using the Inspect command on a Synchronization Agreement, you may encounter incorrect search results on the "Execution History" page in the Inspect window. The find operation may return no search results even though certain data matches your search criteria. The problem occurs when search criteria impose a condition on anchor values (for example, the "Anchor value is not empty" condition).

WORKAROUND
When configuring conditions in the Find area on the "Execution History" page, avoid selecting the "Anchor Value" item from the Attributes list.

CR0208697
A Generic Database Template-based Synchronization Agreement may fail to run due to an authentication error when attempting to connect to the data source - OLE DB or ODBC compatible database. The problem occurs if the Synchronization Agreement connects to the data source through an ODBC driver. For example, you encounter this problem if your Synchronization Agreement is configured to connect to ODBC data by using a data source name (DSN).

WORKAROUND
Configure the Synchronization Agreement to use an OLE DB provider rather than an ODBC driver. Avoid the use of the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers.

ILM Integration

CR0140143
After you configure and run the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent, you cannot use the helpdesk password set Web application included with Microsoft Identity Integration Server. When you enter a valid user name and domain name on the Find User Accounts page and then click Search, the application fails to find the user account, returning no search results. This behavior is because the search in the connector space of the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent fails.

WORKAROUND
Configure and run the Active Directory Management Agent included with Microsoft Identity Integration Server, in addition to the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent. This will allow the password set application to locate objects in the connector space.

CR0142025
If you have provisioning rules configured, you may encounter the export-change-not-reimported error when performing import of an object created by the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent.

This problem shows up in the following situation. You have a rules extension (so-called "provisioning DLL") configured to create objects in the connector space based on changes to objects in the metaverse. The rules extension creates an object and then the object is exported by the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent. Later on, when importing that object, the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent returns the export-change-not-reimported error.

This issue is due to the letter case that the rules extension uses when specifying the distinguished name of the object. If the rules extension uses the letter case different from that returned by the Management Agent during the import operation, the error in question occurs. For example, you encounter the export-change-not-reimported error when the rules extension specifies the entry "cn=" in lower case whereas the Management Agent returns that entry in upper case: "CN="

WORKAROUND
You can resolve this issue by revising the implementation of the rules extension to ensure that it uses the appropriate letter case when specifying a distinguished name.

CR0201837
After upgrade from an earlier version of MIIS Integration to version 3.5, the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent that was added to MIIS by using the earlier version fails to run, returning the "stopped-extension-dll-file-not-found" error.

WORKAROUND
Use the Identity Manager tool (included with MIIS) to delete the failed Management Agent. Then, create and configure the Management Agent of version 3.5. For instructions, see "Adding the ActiveRoles Server Management Agent to MIIS" in the MIIS Integration Quick Start Guide document (included on the ActiveRoles Server CD).

CR0206503
There is no online Help in the MIIS Integration Deployment Panel.

WORKAROUND
For information on how to use the Deployment Panel, refer to the MIIS Integration Quick Start Guide document included on the ActiveRoles Server CD.

CR0206729
When uninstalling MIIS Integration, the Setup program does not delete the ActiveRoles Server configuration-related objects, such as Managed Units, Script Modules, and Access Templates, that were created by MIIS Integration upon deployment of integration projects.

WORKAROUND
Use the ActiveRoles Server console to manually delete the objects created by MIIS Integration that remain in the ActiveRoles Server configuration after you have uninstalled MIIS Integration.

CR0207172
Incorrect display of the Web Interface after performing the Provision or Deprovision operation: The Web Interface continues to display the Provision or Deprovision page even though the operation has been completed.

WORKAROUND
Click the Exit button on the page to leave the page.

CR0208254
When provisioning an Active Directory object to a connected data source, creation of the object in the connected data source may fail due to incorrect distinguished name of the object.

WORKAROUND
On the Active Directory object that failed to be provisioned to the connected system, use the "All Tasks | Advanced Properties" command in the ActiveRoles Server console to clear the value of the edsvaProvisioningRule attribute.

CR0209393
When deploying an Integration Project, you need to manually reload the Web Interface configuration. Information about this step is missing from the MIIS Integration Quick Start Guide.

WORKAROUND
After you have deployed an Integration Project, go to the Web Interface site that is customized by the Integration Project, point to "Customization" on the Web Interface Navigation Bar, and click "Reload" for the new customization settings to take effect.
