Detailed, Real-Time Auditing of Exchange Server Configurations and Permissions

InTrust Plug-in for Exchange - Comprehensive Activity Tracking and Mailbox Access for Microsoft Exchange Servers

E-mail has become the predominant business tool for communication within and between organizations. With this predominance comes the usage of e-mail as a repository of information – sometimes sensitive and potentially misused. Today, violations to corporate policies around e-mail go undetected due to the fact that most of the security actions are not audited. No solution on the market addressed the security and compliance concerns around auditing permission changes and non-owner mailbox access to improve security and ensure compliance with regulations.

Audit Detailed Configuration and Permissions Changes

Intrust Plug-in for Exchange

The InTrust Plug-in for Exchange supports clustered configurations for both Exchange 2000 and 2003 and provides detailed, real-time auditing of changes to Exchange server configurations and permissions. The Plug-in works in the framework of the full InTrust product to provide all information behind important changes, including who made the change, where they made the change from and the before and after values. This provides operational value by allowing an administrator to troubleshoot Exchange problems and reverse any changes if necessary. It also has security and compliance value by allowing organizations to track changes to Exchange security and policy settings which may adversely affect the organization.

Audit User Activity

The Plug-in collects and correlates all unusual user and suspicious administrator activity. For example, reporting on permission changes made to a mailbox within AD or at the local Outlook client as well as anyone using Send-As privileges.

Audit Non-Owner Activity

The InTrust Plug-in for Exchange offers organizations a view into administrators and users who have gained access into another users’ mailbox and provides detailed information about that activity such as e-mails read, deleted, copied, moved, forwarded, etc., and permission changes made to folders.

Audit and Control Changes in Active Directory and Group Policy

InTrust Plug-in for Active Directory (a pre-requisite for the InTrust Plug-in for Exchange) provides comprehensive, detailed, real-time auditing of changes to mailbox permissions as well as other AD related objects such as GPO’s. InTrust Plug-in for Active Directory provides all the detailed information behind important changes, including who made the change, where they made the change from and the before and after values. Operationally, administrators can troubleshoot AD problems and reverse any changes if necessary. By allowing administrators to track changes to AD security and policy and showing how the changes have strayed from the approved configuration, organizations can address thier IT compliance requirements.

Archived Webcast:  Filling the Gap in Exchange Auditing

Exchange is first and foremost an e-mail server, and when e-mail servers were first designed, no one foresaw the massive dependence that would develop between organizations and their e-mail servers. Today 60% of organizations process revenue-generating orders via e-mail and approximately 75% of corporate intellectual property is being transmitted via e-mail.

Without accurate tracking of Exchange mailbox activity, organizations find it difficult to react to administrative and security-policy violations, which affect their ability to ensure compliance.  Organizations can incur lost productivity and system downtime if faced with undetected, undesired changes to critical objects in Exchange. Without awareness of changes to critical objects, such as who made the change and the before and after values, organizations cannot efficiently address unwanted change.

In this case, the gap is filled with the InTrust Plug-in for Exchange. Register now to view this archived event.
